What we do

Invest Northern Ireland (Invest NI) is the region’s economic development agency, focused on driving a balanced, sustainable, productive and prosperous economy by unlocking business potential.

We can help your business succeed through a combination of financial support, tailored guidance and information.

We also provide support for sectors that offer high returns for the Northern Ireland economy. This involves helping to build the connections and infrastructure that will promote excellence in specific areas.

To achieve our goals we work in partnership with many other organisations across Northern Ireland.

Our approach

We work directly and indirectly with businesses across Northern Ireland.

Our approach to supporting businesses is based on three key elements:

  • Providing information and advice, directly and through a range of information services
  • Providing support to people wanting to set up their own business and helping new and existing businesses grow and move into new markets
  • Providing tailored support to businesses that can make the greatest contribution to increasing productivity, innovation and export growth in Northern Ireland

Because our resources are limited we focus on those businesses that can make the biggest contribution to the economy.

Invest Northern Ireland client companies

We take businesses on as clients because this approach helps us focus our resources where they can make the biggest difference to Northern Ireland’s economy. By working closely with a defined group of companies, we can provide more targeted support, build strong relationships, and better understand each business’s goals and challenges. This allows us to help them grow faster, innovate more, and increase their sales outside Northern Ireland – all of which helps the wider economy prosper.

Invest Northern Ireland clients are manufacturing and/ or tradeable services business with:

  • The potential to achieve at least 25% of sales to customers based outside Northern Ireland (or at least £250,000 external sales, whichever is lower); and
  • The potential to employ at least 10 staff, within 5 years.

Our job is to help you achieve this potential. If your business meets these criteria, you may be eligible to apply to become an Invest Northern Ireland client.
