In 2020, Asia’s GDP overtook the GDP of the rest of the world combined. By 2030, the territory is expected to contribute roughly 60% of global growth.

In 2022 business from Northern Ireland exported £925 million worth of products and services to the Asia Pacific territory, including Australia.

NI Economics Trade Statistics, NISRA, published December 2023

The majority of that GDP growth will come from not only China (the world's second largest economy) but also from Southeast Asian countries like: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam; and the Northeast Asian countries of Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.
